A GREENER FUTURE WITH STARBUCKS GROUNDS FOR YOUR GARDEN

As one of Starbucks enviromental promise, to give more than we take, Starbucks started Starbucks Grounds for Your Garden program. Launched in 1995, this program is simple yet impactful. Instead of tossing used coffee grounds into the trash, participating Starbucks stores gives coffee grounds a second life by bag them up and offer them to customers as compost material for gardening purposes. Used coffee grounds help improve soil texture, attract earthworms, and enhance water retention. Some even claim they help keep pests like slugs and snails away.

Our goal is to reduce our carbon, waste and water footprints by half by 2030. We’ve also committed to using 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable customer packaging by 2030.”

Starbucks Grounds for Your Garden can be easily collected in the participating Starbucks stores. It is usually displayed inside a basket where you can spot neatly packed bags of used coffee grounds. Some stores even include helpful instructions for composting and soil mixing.

Starbucks partners from three different stores, Starbucks D Mall Depok, Starbucks Trans Studio Mall Bandung, and Starbucks Skyline Building Jakarta, joined hands to take a meaningful step toward a greener future. Driven by the spirit of sustainability and environmental care, they brought the Starbucks "Grounds for Your Garden" initiative to the streets by participating in Car Free Day (CFD). During this event, they offered used coffee grounds while connecting with the public to spread the message that sustainability starts with small, consistent choices, and that everyone can play a part.

The Grounds for Your Garden program is more than just a sustainability initiative. It is a daily reminder that small, conscious choices (like taking a bag of used coffee grounds) can grow into something big and beautiful. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or a curious coffee lover, this is one easy way to give back to the planet, one cup at a time.
